Using the Single Select and Multi Select Properties
How to set up structured fields with pre-defined values for consistency and clarity in your agent.
Introduction
Now that you know the basics of setting up properties—choosing the type, tool, and name—let's look at Single Select and Multi Select properties, and when you might use them instead of a text field.
Choosing the Right Property Type
If you want to capture a company's industry, you could use a text property, but this might lead to inconsistent entries (e.g., "SaaS", "Software as a Service"). By using a single or multi-select property with values from your CRM, you ensure consistency and make integration easier.
Choose between text and select properties based on your needs: use text for open-ended input, and select properties when you want to limit choices to a set list.
Example:
- Industry (Multi Select): Select one or more industries from your CRM's list (e.g., "SaaS", "Healthcare").
- Company Type (Single Select): Pick one value (e.g., "Public", "Private").
Step 1: Create the Property
- Add a new property to your agent.
- Choose either Single Select or Multi Select as the type.
- Give it a clear, descriptive name (e.g.,
Industry
orCompany Type
).
Step 2: Add Your Values
- Enter the list of allowed values for this property (ideally, use your CRM's list for consistency).
- Multi Select allows more than one value; Single Select restricts to one.

Step 3: Set Fallback Behavior
- Decide what should happen if a value isn't found or can't be determined:
- Leave the property empty (default)
- Set a default value (e.g., "Other" or "Unknown")

Step 4: Use Colors for Clarity
- Assign colors to each value to help users quickly differentiate between options.
Select properties help keep your data structured and consistent when that's important—just choose the approach that best fits your use case.
So, now we have a functioning agent that extracts information from a PDF CIM file to our most popular properties (text, single select, multi select). This is all you need to get value from your agent. However, if you are ready to take your agent to the next level, let's explore further property types.
